Working with the Career Center helped me be more confident in my job search.

How have you benefited from using the Career Center services?

Personally, I believe that the Career Center is one of the best student services at TCU. Gabriela, the Career Consultant for College of Science and Engineering, has helped me a lot in my first internship application process. She told me how to make use of the job sources online as well as TCU connections. Gabriela also provided tips and training for my interviews, whether through the phone or meetings in person. The Career Center also holds regular company tours, which is a great opportunity to get to know the company and network with the current employees.

How did working with the Career Center impact your internship/job search?

Working with the Career Center helped me be more confident in my job search. I know that there will always be professionals right here at TCU who will guide me through every step of my application.

What was the most helpful advice given to you by the Career Center?

Start early. You never know what will happen. I tried to visit the Career Center every one or two weeks for 7 months and you cannot imagine how happy I am about that decision.

What challenges were you facing and how did the Career Center help you solve them or motivate you to solve them?

As an international student, it is more difficult to get an internship. After six months of searching I almost gave up. Gabriela kept assuring me that I was very qualified for any of the internships, and all I needed to do was to put myself out there. It all paid off when I landed my first internship with Alcon.

What advice would you give others facing the same challenges you did?

Be confident about yourself and do not give up. If others can do it, you can do it. If no one can do it, you will be the first.

Where there any specific events you went to that were beneficial? If so which one and why was it helpful?

I went on the Southwest Airlines tour organized by the Career Center. I learned more about the company’s values, culture, and facility.
