How have you benefited from using the Career Center services?

The Career Center has been beneficial in me helping develop as a young professional in every aspect. Through the Career Center services, I have crafted a professional resume and cover letter, explored potential careers based my MBTI and Skills Inventory assessment, received coaching for job interviews and on my elevator pitch, and received assistance for preparing for Graduate school.

How did working with the Career Center impact your internship/job search?

Working with the Career Center has helped me with every detail in the job search and application process. I received help with finding jobs that are specific to my major, and how to modify my resume for each position that I am applying for. Additionally, my Career Consultant Chris, works diligently to ensure that I am ready for the interview process, and how to stay in contact with future employers.

What was the most helpful advice given to you by the Career Center?

I have learned that it is important to keep my resume format concise, consistent and close to one full page. Moreover, it is important to be specific with the descriptions and quantify duties if possible. I have also learned that it is important to research the company or organization before an interview, and to have a list of questions to ask the interviewer about the job and position I am applying for.

What challenges were you facing and how did the Career Center help you solve them or motivate you to solve them?

During my first semester at TCU I faced challenges of finding a job on campus and outside of campus. After meeting with my Career Consultant, I learned how to find jobs both on and off campus through the TCU FrogJobs online platform. The portal helps students to refine their job searches based on their major, department, and both on or off campus positions. Additionally, students can complete the applications directly from their FrogJobs portal.

What advice would you give others facing the same challenges you did?

I would certainly advise them to meet with their Career Consultant! The Consultants work diligently to ensure that their students are successful in all professionally endeavors. They help you to develop action plans to stay focused on your goals, and encourage you to consistently meet with them until your goal is accomplished!

Where there any specific events you went to that were beneficial? If so which one and why was it helpful?

I attended the TCU Career and Intern Expo. Attending this event was beneficial because I met with a variety of employers who were accepting applications for internships. Moreover, I utilized my skills of performing my elevator pitch to future employers.
