Employer Policies

Professional Conduct/EEO

  • Organizations are required to conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner during any Texas Christian University (TCU) recruiting event. TCU Career Center requires organizations to adhere and refer to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Professional Conduct for Career Services & Employment Professionals http://www.naceweb.org/principles.
  • TCU is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and affirmative action institution. Employers must subscribe to the same guidelines and laws established by the Federal and Texas governments.
  • Non-Discrimination Policy: It is the policy of the TCU Career Center office that each person shall be considered solely on the basis of qualifications, without regard to race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, disabilities, sexual orientation, or veteran status.
  • All recruiters must comply with the nondiscrimination requirements of the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) standards, and state employment laws.
  • All recruiters must comply with The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) which prohibits those receiving information about a student from disclosing it to anyone not directly involved in the hiring process without the written permission of the student.

Employer Eligibility

Any organization requiring a monetary investment is required to disclose this information to students/alumni prior to participation in recruitment at TCU.

Multiple Level Marketing Organizations

Multiple-level marketing plans, as defined in the Competition Act, are legal.

It is required by law (Competition Act) that Multiple Level Organizations must include the amount of compensation actually or likely to be received by a potential participant (TCU student, graduate, or alumni) of the plan, so as not to mislead potential recruits (TCU student, graduate or alumni) to believe that it will be easy to make large amounts of money.

A Multiple Level Plan type Organization should ensure that any representations made about the plan are – or include information that is – fair, reasonable, and timely as the plan relates to:

  • the different levels of earnings or compensation received by participants in the plan;
  • the amount of money earned by a typical participant; and
  • the time and effort required to reach specific levels of income.

Pyramid Selling

A scheme of pyramid selling is a multi-level marketing plan that incorporates any one of a number of specified marketing practices that make it a criminal offense under the Competition Act. It is illegal if:

  • participants (TCU students, graduates, or alumni) pay money for the right to receive compensation for recruiting new participants;
  • a participant (TCU student, graduate, or alumni) is required to buy a specific quantity of products, other than at cost price for the purpose of advertising, before the participant is allowed to join the plan or advance within the plan;
  • participants (TCU student, graduate, or alumni) are knowingly sold commercially unreasonable quantities
  • of the product or products (this practice is called inventory loading) or;
  • participants (TCU students, graduates, or alumni) are not allowed to return products on reasonable commercial terms.

Third-Party Policy

In accordance with NACE Principles for Professional Conduct for Career Services & Employment Professionals, third party recruiters are defined as “agencies, organizations, or individuals recruiting candidates for temporary, part-time or full-time employment opportunities other than for their own needs.” Such organizations might be termed “headhunters,” “executive search firms” and the like.

  • In addition to adhering to our general guidelines noted above, TCU has the following requirements:
  • Third-party agencies are limited to postings for internal roles only.
  • New third-party agency account requests via Handshake may be declined or require additional information for confirmation.  Account access requests for job posting websites or job boards will be declined.
  • Organizations or individuals providing third-party recruiting services will be required to inform the Career Center of the specific employer they represent and the specific job(s) for which they are recruiting for and will permit verification of the information.
  • Third-party recruiters that charge fees to students will not have access to the Career Center.
  • All positions for job postings and on-campus interviews must be for permanent, experiential, temporary or seasonal employment and must be a position requiring ongoing university education or a college degree. Position descriptions must also include the type of organization, occupational title, and location of the position.
  • Third-party recruiters will not disclose to any employer, including the client-employer, any student information without obtaining prior written consent from the student. Under no circumstances can student information be disclosed for other than the original recruiting purposes nor can it be sold or provided to other entities.
  • Third-party recruiters may be allowed to interview on campus and participate in career fairs for internal agency hires only and when applicable above conditions are met.

Complaint Procedures

  • Students have the right to bring complaints about a participating recruiting organization to the attention of the TCU Career Center.
  • The Career Center will investigate the complaint, consult with other University officials as necessary, and determine the appropriate course of action. If, based on a complaint, the Career Center contemplates terminating participation; the organization will be given the opportunity to respond to the complaint.
  • The Career Center reserves the right to terminate or refuse the participation of any organization in Career Center activities.

To recruit on campus, follow these steps:

  1. Set a date – Typically on-campus recruitment occurs October through November and February through April. However, employers are invited to recruit throughout the year at TCU. To reserve an on-campus interview date, contact the Career Center at least four weeks before your desired date to allow plenty of time to complete all steps of the process.
  2. Provide a Job Description – After the date has been reserved, you will work through FrogJobs, the Career Center’s online recruiting database, to complete a schedule request form. On this form, employers will provide a detailed job description and screening criteria. To access FrogJobs, Click Here.
  3. Choose an Interview Option – There are three options for selecting your candidates:
  • Pre-select Schedule – Interested candidates will submit their resumes electronically utilizing FrogJobs until the pre-select deadline expires. After the deadline expires, the resumes will be available to employers for review and to make their selections. Employers can monitor the scheduled activity on FrogJobs or contact the Career Center directly for an update.
  • Open Schedule – For an open schedule, candidates meeting your qualifications can sign up on the interview schedule posted at FrogJobs on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Resumes Collection – If you choose not to participate in on-campus recruiting, the Career Center can provide a resume collection service. Resumes would be submitted on FrogJobs with your specific deadlines and specifications, and then the Career Center will forward responses, allowing you to contact students and alumni directly.

The Career Center Handles the Rest – Give us your recruiting literature, employment applications and other materials at least one week before your interview date and we will be happy to distribute them.

The Career Center is committed to making the interview process as easy as possible for every organization that recruits at TCU. To get more information or to schedule an interview date, contact us at careers@tcu.edu.

Disclaimer: Registering for an account and submitting a job posting does not guarantee your account or posting will be approved. We carefully screen all employers, job, and internship postings to confirm the listing meets our Employer Recruitment Policies and to protect our students from employment and internship scams. Before posting, please take the time to review our Employer Recruitment Policies

Please note, TCU makes no representations or guarantees regarding any individual applicant’s integrity, safety, confidentiality, fitness or competence for employment. It is the responsibility of the employer to interview, check requirements, references and/or perform background checks on any individual hired. To ensure employers abide by TCU policies, and in order for the TCU Career Center to assist employers in promoting their openings, employers are asked to comply with the following policies.

Employers may publicize their job openings by these methods:

  • Advertise through the Career Center on Frogjobs by Handshake, our central jobs database,  and /or schedule on-campus interviews through Career Services.
  • Request approval from the Career Center before posting or distributing flyers. To reserve a recruiting table, post a job on Frogjobs, or sign up for on-campus interviews, please contact a member of the Career Services Employer Relations team at careers@tcu.edu When using a table, employers will need to remain at the table and refrain from solicitation in the Union or around campus. Employers must follow the room use policy set by the BLUU.
  • Employers are prohibited from soliciting in residence halls, classrooms, administrative buildings, or other campus locations. Door-to-door sales in all University facilities are prohibited.
  • Organizations wishing to contact TCU students must register with Career Services. To solicit unlisted phone numbers of students from other students and university staff/faculty is prohibited. When cold calling students, the employer is expected to cite his/her name, organization name, title, and reason for the call. Calls must occur between 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. central standard time.
  • Employers are welcome to advertise products and/or recruit through the campus student publication, TCU 360.
  • Employers who violate these policies may be removed from campus immediately and/or be banned from campus recruiting activities.

If you have any questions regarding the above policies, please contact careers@tcu.edu.

The TCU Career Center is a member of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), the association for career services and employment professionals. As members, we abide by the Principles for Professional Conduct, an ethics document that serves as the framework and foundation for practices within the career planning and recruitment processes.

The Principles for Professional Conduct document states, “Serving alcohol should not be part of the recruitment process.” This means, having an open bar, a paid bar, or holding a recruiting event in a bar is inappropriate. Furthermore, many college students are younger than the State’s legal drinking age.

TCU cannot coordinate nor advertise information sessions or interviews if the employer will be hosting alcohol on or ff campus.

If you would like to review the Principles for Professional Conduct document in its entirety, you may find it at www.naceweb.org/principles.

If you would like to discuss this policy, please contact Mike Caldwell, Executive Director, at 817-257-2222 or m.a.caldwell@tcu.edu directly.
