How have you benefited from using the Career Center services?
Yes! The Career Center services have help me by looking over my resume and helping me prepare for an interview.
How did working with the Career Center impact your internship/job search?
They helped me in identifying my strengths and my weaknesses. Once I figured that out, I was able to focus on areas I need to improve and market my strengths. This drew me into a certain area in my field of study that is nontraditional. I feel like I have found a new passion and I love every day of it!
What was the most helpful advice given to you by the Career Center?
Developing your story. During my interview for Dietitians in Business and Communication student chair, I did not get asked any question from the list of preparation questions the Career Center services provided. But in preparing for those questions, I developed my story. My interviewer was impressed with my answers during the interview that I was offered the position a few days later.
What challenges were you facing and how did the Career Center help you solve them or motivate you to solve them?
I am in the coordinated program in dietetics. It’s a tough program to get into at the nutritional department and I barely got in. Compare to my classmates in the program, I don’t have the academic skills they have. I knew I had to make up for it by concentrating and highlighting my strengths to make me more competitive. The Career Center helped me discovered those strengths and gave me strategies to use when networking, using of LinkedIn, and building relations with potential employers.
What advice would you give others facing the same challenges you did?
Take advantage of the Career Center. It’s free! We all need help whether we like to admit it or not. Even if we think we know everything, something can be gained by using the Career Center!
Where there any specific events you went to that were beneficial? If so which one and why was it helpful?
The interview preparation. I knew my resume well and I think the resume review is essential, but It was during the interview preparation that really put me at a competitive advantage. It gave me the confidence to go into any interview and just crush it!
